Course Description
The Welding Program introduces students to the basics of welding principles. Students will learn welding safety and theory, metal preparation, measuring, cutting, project layout, blue print reading, in addition to basic metal fabrication.

This hands-on class will give students the opportunity to learn the different types of welding oxyfuel, Gas/Metal Arc Welding, TIG Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Plasma Cutting. Upon completion of the fabrication unit, students will be able to safely set-up and operate various machines such as CNC, lathes, mills, and drill presses.
Course Content
The first year of the program instructs students in welding safety and welding techniques utilizing the various welding processes.

The second year of the program further explores the arc welding process and prepares students for welding certification. Fabrication is a significant component of year two. The blend of fabrication and welding expands student knowledge to manufacture and create unique welding designs.

Nick Conklin

Welding Teacher

Hi my name is Nick Conklin and I’m the Welding teacher here at CTE. I have been working here for 4 years but I have 23 years of experience in the Welding field. I went to Delhi Tech and prior to working here I held many jobs. These include Welder Fabricator, Iron Worker, Pipe Welder, Welding specialist for a gas supply company, and I owned my own business. I was drawn to this field because I really enjoy working with my hands, fabricating and creating things. The best part of my program is that students will learn how to do  fabricating. The responsibility of starting something, finishing it and not giving up on something just because it is hard is very rewarding. Welding is very difficult to learn and fabricating is even harder. It takes patience, perseverance, and foresight. In my free time I love to enjoy the outdoors, welding and spending time with my family.
