Course Description
The Automotive Technology Program at the Career & Tech Center prepares students with the skills and experience necessary to enter a variety of automotive fields as an entry level technician or as an apprentice.
The Automotive Technician makes a living diagnosing, servicing, and repairing vehicles. The technician must be highly skilled and well trained. He or she must be a “jack of all trades.” A successful tech needs the skills of a Machinist, Plumber, Electrician, Welder, Computer Technician, and Bookkeeper. Students are trained in a real shop. They will learn all of the basics of how to look up repair procedures, wiring diagrams and learn how to safely set up and operate shop equipment such as brake lathes, digital volt ohmmeters, vehicle alignment equipment, engine performance diagnostic equipment, and oxyacetylene cutting & welding. |

Patsy Somers
Teaching Assistant
Hi my name is Patsy Somers and this is my third year working at CTE. I am the Teaching Assistant for Auto Tech I and II. I went to Tri-Valley High School and then SUNY New Paltz. I worked in retail and insurance for many years, but I was drawn to this field because I enjoy working with children. I have 23 years of experience in my field. The best part of this program is that students actually build an employability profile for themselves using the skills they learn, as well as the certifications that they acquire over their 2 years in CTE. In my free time I love to do crafting and spending time with my family. A fun fact about me is that I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty in Auto Tech, even with my “fancy” fingernails!
